Artist Profile
August 29th
1958 saw the birth of one of the well celebrated iconic figures in
entertainment. So in this 10th episode (August edition) we pay
tribute to none other than “The King of Pop” Michael Joseph Jackson. A
phenomenal singer, songwriter, producer, and dancer who was a household
entertainer globally.
Born in
Gary, Indiana U.S, he was the eighth child of Katherine Esther Scruse (Mother)
and Joseph Walter “Joe” Joseph. He had 3 sisters (Rebbie, La Toya & Janet)
and 5 brothers (Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon & Randy). It was in the
early 60’s that Michael together with his elder brothers (Jermaine, Tito,
Marlon & Jackie) debuted as “The Jackson 5” in the professional music
scene, later going solo in 1971.
After
releasing a number of solo albums ( 4 to be precise) while still with the
family band, Michael starred on a musical “The Wiz’ (where he co-starred with
Diana Ross), he met legendary producer and then the film’s musical score arranger
and went to work on Jackson’s 1979 “Off the wall” album (his 1st
solo album that hit the Billboard charts with smashing songs like “Don’t stop
til you get enough and Rock with You”, songs which are still being banged all
over to date.
From that
onward moment he went on to release chat topping albums, the 1982 “Thriller”
(recognised as one of the best albums of all time). Then it was followed by
“Bad” 1987, “Dangerous” 1991, “History: Past, Present and Future, Book 1” 1995,
“Invincible” 2001. He was known for his energetic stage performances, making
the “moon walk” the most danced routine within the pop youth culture. His music
videos and its choreographed dance moves changed the way music videos were made
and the popularity of then formed MTV.
He passed away
on June 25 2009 in his bed in his rented mansion 100 North Carolwood Drive,
were attempts of resuscitation efforts continued en route to the hospital,
after an hour arriving there he was pronounced dead.
So long “The
King Of Pop”, thanks for the many memorable experiences.

HISTORY OF CHICAGO HOUSE: PART 1
With house music currently becoming a well-known global genre in the music industry, we decided to look at its origins and the places together with its people that laid the foundation for chaps such as us Modern Soul Experience, to get to enjoy this music we call “House” which gets peeps crazy on the dance floors.
It was back
in an old Chicago nightclub “The Warehouse” that most musical fundis say the
name was adopted for the genre. This was a place old disco classics, new
Eurobeat pop, synthesized beats where mixed as danced-floor fillers by then
resident Dj Frankie Knuckles (who we featured in our 1st Episode).
The sounds of dance music like classics by Harold Melvin, Billy Paul and the O’Jays
were mixed with upfront disco hits like Martin Circus “Disco Circus” and
imported European pop music by synthesizers groups like Kraftwerk and Telex,
which marked of pioneering dance music scene.
According to
the legend himself Knukles, house is a re-invention of dance music of yesterday
(which predominantly compromised of disco music). It was young artists at the
Warehouse such as Professor Funk, who would stay throughout the night at the
club and sing along and free styled to some of Frankie’s records. That set the creativity on the emergence of
house music.....
